Suspect Charged Following Series of Criminal Damage Offences in Tooting Broadway |

|
Earlier this year, police received reports of an individual repeatedly defecating on the front doors of residential properties across the Tooting Broadway area. The first reports were made in April, and as the offences continued throughout the summer, concerned residents raised the issue with the Tooting Broadway Safer Neighbourhood Team and at the local Ward Panel.
Your local policing team reviewed all reported incidents and worked to gather as much evidence as possible. A significant breakthrough came when a resident provided Ring doorbell footage capturing one of the offences. The footage showed the suspect's clothing and part of his face. Images were circulated across a number of policing teams; however, despite extensive enquiries, the suspect was not recognised.
The investigation remained active, and officers continued to look for opportunities to identify the individual. In September, officers reviewing CCTV footage relating to an unrelated anti-social behaviour incident recognised that the person shown was wearing the same distinctive clothing seen in the Ring doorbell footage. Further local enquiries established where the individual lived, enabling officers to confirm his identity.
Thanks to the support of local residents, who provided victim statements and crucial video evidence, officers were able to arrest the suspect and submit a full file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The individual has now been charged with 14 counts of criminal damage and 2 counts of harassment.
We recognise the distress and disgust these offences caused local residents and appreciate the patience shown by those affected while enquiries were carried out. Although this investigation took time, it demonstrates our commitment to pursuing offenders, and highlights the important role the community plays in helping us bring people to justice.
Thank you to everyone who supported this investigation. | ||
